Jigsaw supports local squash talent

At Jigsaw, we like to be the best. We also like to be associated with the best. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our sponsorship of  professional squash star, Ashley Davies, is now in its second year.

Still only 19 years of age, Ashley is already well known on the national and international squash circuit, and has  numerous European national titles and accolades to his name, as well as Derbyshire County Champion 14 times, at all age groups, 8 times East Midlands Area Champion and British Under 17 National Champion. He is the only British player to have reached a British Junior Open Final (the squash equivalent of Wimbledon) since Joe Lee, now a top fifty ranked player, in 2006, when he was the runner up in the competition in 2012.

Ashley has played and won as part of the England Team, and has been ranked European No 1 and England No 2 (in different age groups).

Currently based in Chorley, Lancashire, the Chesterfield-born sensation is coached by Danny Massaro (husband of Laura Massaro, World Champion and World womens No 2) and in Harrogate by David Pearson, ex England head of Coaching and coach to 2 World Champions.

Ashley has also been mentored since he was 13 by Sheffield’s - 3 times World and 6 times British Champion Nick Matthew

Ashley is already making his mark on the international scene, having won 2 Professional Squash Association (PSA) tour events, and competed in America, Malaysia, and Portugal, with trips to Spain, Gibraltar, and Egypt coming up.

Ashley competes in numerous leagues for different clubs - the North West Premier Squash League for the Northern club in Manchester, the Yorkshire Premier League for Abbeydale Park, the Derbyshire Premier League for Brampton Manor and the PSL National Squash League for three-times National Champions, Benz Bavarian Duffield. He also competes in the Italian National League for Padova 2001.

Trevor Davies, Ashley’s Dad and Manager says, “Ashley is incredibly head strong, focused and ambitious. He’s already ranked at 220 in the world after his first full year playing as a professional on the PSA tour, and plans to break into the top 150 by this time next year. He only has one goal to be ranked in the top 10 before he is 25 and emulate, or better his mentor, Nick Matthew.”

Jigsaw’s Mark Shipley adds, “We recognise talent when we see it, and we believe that Ashley will go far. We hope that by supporting Ashley, we can help him realise his dreams and achieve the potential he clearly has.”

So look out for Ashley in the future, whether that’s on the PSA tour, at future Commonwealth Games or even at the Olympics, should squash become an Olympic sport.

All professional sport is expensive to compete in, especially if you want to reach the top. Ability and determination isn’t always enough. If anyone feels they would like to get involved and support a young talented athlete and help him achieve his ambition, however small the contribution. Then please feel free to contact Ash direct at http://www.agdsquash.co.uk/
